Queen Elizabeth II: Reign Supreme

Queen Elizabeth II: Reign Supreme

Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born on April 21, 1926, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, subsequently King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. At age eleven, Elizabeth's father became King when her uncle Edward abdicated, and she became second in line to the throne. Her engagement to Prince Philip of Greece marked the dawn of a new era after WWII. The nation rejoiced at Elizabeth and Philip's wedding and one year later at the birth of Prince Charles. Two years later, Princess Anne was born. On route to Australia for a royal visit in 1952, she was informed that her father had passed away. Elizabeth immediately returned home and was crowned Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953. With the births of Prince Andrew and Prince Edward in the 1960s, the royal family was complete. This retrospective biography honors Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom's most-beloved Queen for 70 years.
