"Hitchhiking 4,000 miles across the Algerian Sahara, Dick Russell's and Steve Ewert's story is a riveting profile in curiosity, breakdowns, and determination." - Ross Gelbspan, Author (The Heat is On and Boiling Point)
What started out as two young men from Kansas setting out to find themselves in the early 1970s, turned into something far more than they ever could have imagined. Photographer Steve Ewert and writer Dick Russell first traveled across Europe looking for experiences, which they certainly found; however, the most fascinating, disillusioning and dangerous experiences were yet to come as they crossed the Mediterranean and hitchhiked across the Sahara Desert, making a 2700-mile trip that started in Algeria and ended in sub-Saharan Ghana. Perilously close to death several times, the two wrote about and took pictures of their journey and how they somehow survived, and now, nearly 50 years later, this documentary tells the story of their extraordinary adventure and long-lasting friendship.
